A few days after the grisly killing of youth-uprising activist Rajib and three others, a nexus of fanatics and evil forces engaged in spreading falsehood and fomenting communal hatred struck again blasting cocktails at Shahbagh projanma Chattar on Friday, stabbing blogger Saniur Rahman at Pallabi on Thursday and killing a Narayanganj ganojagaran activist’s son.

The abduction and killing of Ganojagaran Mancha Narayanganj-unit organiser’s son, Tanveer Mohammad Twaki, who had been missing since Wednesday, cocktail explosions near the Shahbagh Ganojagaran Mancha and the stabbing of an IT engineer, a supporter of the ongoing Shahbagh movement, once again rocked the pro-liberation camp.

Braving an all-out security measure taken by the members of different law-enforcing agencies, including intelligence outfits, vested quarters, especially Jamaat-Shibir activists, are still indulging in killing and stabbing people who belong to the pro-liberation forces.

There is no sign of any respite from mayhem being perpetrated by Jamaat-Shibir faithful who are also launching attacks on minorities and their temples at different places.

Police and relatives of Tanveer and Saniur suspected that Jamaat-Shibir men might have committed the criminal acts.

Shahbagh Projanma Chattar protagonists also accused Jamaat-Shibir men of blasting two cocktails near their gathering, which reportedly left a RAB man injured.

Tanveer Mohammad Twaki, 17, son of Narayanganj Ganojagaran Mancha organiser Rafiur Rabbi, was found dead and dumped in Sitalakkhya River in the district on Friday morning, two days after he had gone missing.

Twaki, also an A-level student, went missing on Wednesday evening.

Rabbi is also a cultural personality and vice-president of Narayanganj Nagarik Committee.

The local Sangskritik Jote called a dawn-to-dusk hartal for Saturday in the district in protest against the killing of the teenage boy.

President of Narayanganj Sangskritik Jote Adv Pradip Ghosh Babu announced the shutdown programme.

Monjur Kader, Officer-in-Charge of Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station, said local people found the body in a canal adjacent to the river in Charargop area around 9:00am and informed them.

“On information, we rushed to the spot and recovered the body around 9:30am,” he added.

Later, Rafiur Rabbi came to the spot at around 11:00am and identified the body, the OC said.

The OC said, “We found an injury mark in his eye but no other injury marks on his whole body. So we suspected that he was strangled to death before dumping in the river.”

The brutal killing sent shockwaves all around. Relatives as well as political and cultural personalities rushed to the bereaved family on getting the news.

Arman, a friend of Twaki, said: “He is a very polite and gentle boy. He did not have any enemy.”

Narayanganj City Corporation Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy demanded fair probe and arrest of the killers.

Sammilita Sangskritik Jote activists staged a march through Chashara with black flags in hand demanding arrest and trial of the assailants.

Pradip Ghosh said, “Rafiur Rabbi was always against any wrongdoings. He was also associated with several citizens’ movements here.”

Rabbi said, “Twaki went out of our Old Court Road residence around 4:30pm Wednesday and did not return.”

Rabbi had filed a complaint with police and the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) after his son went missing.

Twaki attended his Ordinary Level (O-Level) examinations this year from ABC International School in the city’s Chashara area. His results were announced Thursday and he secured record marks in Physics.

On February 15, blogger Ahmed Rajib Haider, a frontline activist of Shahbagh’s Ganojagaran Mancha, was stabbed to death close to home in Dhaka’s Pallabi area.

Five North South University students were arrested by detective police in this connection. They all have reportedly confessed to their role in the murder.

Similarly, on March 2, Sylhet Ganojagaran Mancha activist and former Joint Convenor of the metropolitan unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League Jagatjyoti Talukder was killed in Jamaat-Shibir attack in the district.

A case was filed over the killing against 50 persons, including the city Jamaat chief and the Shibir president.

On Thursday night, Saniur Rahman, 28, another blogger, was stabbed in Pallabi. Blogger Asif Mahiuddin said Saniur was a Shahbagh movement activist.

Blasts at Shahbagh:

At least two bombs went off near the Ganojagaran Mancha at Shahbagh Projanma Chattar during ‘Nari Jagaran’ rally on Friday afternoon, leaving a RAB official injured.

The twin blasts created panic among the crowd sitting on the street between Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University and BIRDEM.

Jalal Uddin, deputy assistant director of the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab-3), has been admitted to the emergency unit of Birdem hospital with wounds in his face and hands.

Papiya, an activist of Ganojagaran Mancha, said that the bombs went off in front of Pubali Bank Ltd at Shahbagh Square at around 4:45 pm while a prescheduled women’s rally was in progress there.

Sirajul Islam, officer-in-charge of Shahbagh police station, told journalists: “The bombs were hurled from the canteen located on the fourth floor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) at about 4.50 pm.”

Police arrested four youths for their suspected links with the explosions. They were being interrogated by DB police . Two of them were reportedly newsmen.

Benazir Ahmed, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner, visited the spot at around 6:00pm.

He told journalists, “It is a pre-planed sabotage. A vested quarter has been trying to make the country unstable for the last few weeks and it is part of the sabotage.”

Blogger Hacked in Mirpur:

Unidentified miscreants stabbed and injured blogger Saniur Rahman, 28, an IT engineer. He is now undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Saniur told reporters, “I got on a bus from Farmgate and got down in front of Purabi Cinema Hall. As I was walking my way, two bearded youths attacked me. They wore Punjabi.”

He suspected that the attackers might have alighted at the bus stand from the same bus.

Saniur said that he used to write articles in blogs against communalism and the riotous activities run by rowdy activists of Jamaat-e-Islam and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir.

Biplab Kishore Shil, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Pallabi Police Station, confirmed the matter of attack.
