Brahmins Cannot Be Blamed For Casteism'

MANGALORE: Pejawar mutt seer Vishvesha Theertha Swamiji said that it is not right to blame Brahmin
"Brahmins have the responsibility of protecting Hindu religion and society. Brahmin community also has the responsibility of guiding all sections of the society including dalits," the seer said.
He observed that there is a need for discussion on injustice being meted out to Brahmin fraternity. All Brahmin sects need to be united for the welfare of Brahmins, he added.
The predominant sects under Brahmin community include Shivalli, Havyaka, Kota, Sthanika, Koteshwara, Chithpavana, Karada and Deshashta. "Only when these sects shed their differences can the community collectively grow," he said.
Columnist P Sadananda Mayya said that business motives have spoilt the Indian religious essence and the Brahmin heritage.
"Corporate culture in temples and mutts has reached new heights that were not prevalent in the past. Vipra community should not remain silent on this issue knowing its consequences fully well. Brahmin community members show less interest in following traditions in the name of multiple cultures. This will affecting the Brahmin culture in the long run," he said.
Globalization is one reason which leads to deterioration of culture, Sadananda opined.
He called upon Brahmin mutts to think of religious and cultural leadership. "Gurukuls and Veda Patashalas needs to be rejuvenated," he added.
