Brahmins feel humiliated on being treated vote banks by SP, BSP: Jitin Prasada
NEW DELHI: Union minister of state for human resource development Jitin Prasada on Wednesday said recent attempts by BSP and SP to woo the Brahmin community in UP will not lead to any electoral gain as the community can see through their vote bank politics.
"BSP and SP remember Brahmins only at the time of elections. Under BSP government there were maximum cases registered against Brahmins under the Harijan act. In the last 18 months of SP government in the state, the community has been fighting for representation," he said.
"The Brahmins of UP know that these parties have no concrete plans for them. They are just being lured when elections are around," Prasada said. He added the false promises being made by SP and BSP would further alienate the community from them as they felt "humiliated at being treated as mere vote bank and their functions being treated as just photo-ops".
He said all communities needed jobs rather than "hollow" promises. Prasada said the statements by parties were attempts to divert attention from their "poor governance". "Voters in UP have seen that BSP, SP and BJP whip up passions to polarise voters along caste, community and religious lines as a way to divert attention from poor governance."
