Tihar officers deny assault on Delhi gangrape accused Vinay Sharma, submit CCTV footage of the jail to substantiate their claim
Officers of Tihar jail on Saturday rubbished the allegations of assault on Vinay Sharma, an accused in the December 16 gangrape and murder case, inside his prison cell.
Jail superintendent of ward no. 7, where accused Vinay Sharma is lodged, appeared before the fast track court and denied the allegations levelled by him.
Lokesh Chandra, the jail officer, substantiated his claim by submitting CCTV footage of the jail premises to the court. He said the accused fell down in the jail van while being transported from Saket court to Tihar and broke his hand.
The jail superintendent told the court that Vinay had himself told the jail officers that his hand was fractured because of a fall in the van. On Friday, Vinay had told the court that he was "brutally assaulted" by other inmates in Tihar prison on Thursday night.
Vinay's counsel A.P. Singh accused the jail officers of "cooking up" a story.
