Mulayam praises Brahmins for their role in development
GORAKHPUR: Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav visited the city to attend a function at DDU Gorakhpur University. In his address, Yadav highlighted the plans and achievements of the state government.

He praised Brahmins for their role in the development of the country. "Brahmin community has always supported the society and participated in the process of development. The community had always fought to eradicate the evils of the society."

 "The state government is all set to control the problem of unemployment. Farmers would be benefited as the government had already started the programme of free irrigation," he said. Yadav blamed the previous government for the poor condition of minorities, who played 80% role in forming the BSP government. The SP chief also sought support of intellectuals for the betterment of the society, "We require the support of intellectuals as they've always come forward to serve the society." He gave the example of Yogi Baba and Baba Bhawnath, who worked for social reforms throughout their lives. "The state government has granted Rs 30,000 for the education of poor Muslim and other girls. Development is impossible without education," he stressed.

Yadav said that in order to control unemployment, the SP government had allowed recruitment of constables in police and PAC. Talking about farmers, he said, "The farmers of the state are in pathetic condition. The government has given facility of free tubewell and canal irrigation to lessen their woes." PWD has started the programme of renewing construction of roads in the state.

Yadav said that Samajwadi Party is following the principles and policies of Ram Manohar Lohia. Vidha Sabha speaker Mata Prasad Pandey was the president of the programme. DDU Gorakhpur University VC PC Trivedi and other intellectuals discussed the issues of Poorvanchal.
