Bangladesh: Bigots declare bloggers unwanted in Barisal
Barisal, Mar 17 (UNB)– Several hundred Muslim devotees under the banner of Hefajate Islam, Olamay-E-Keram and Tawhidi Janata staging a demonstration from different mosques in the city after Juma prayer declared bloggers unwanted and demanded removal of Ekatturer Mancha in Barisal.
After demonstrations, they held a rally at Sonali Ice-cream crossing of Amanatganj-Swa Road in the city protesting alleged disgrace of Almighty Allah and Prophet Muhammed (SM) by bloggers.
Mawlana Obyedur Rahman Mahbub, divisional organiser of Hefazat-E-Islam, presided over the rally addressed, among others, by Mawlana Gaffar, Abdul Halim, Shamsul Alam, Golam Mustafa, Hafez Ruhul Amin, Mufti Sultan Mahmud.
The speakers demanding immediate arrest and capital punishment of the bloggers declared them unwanted in the city.
They also demanded removal of Ekatturer Mancha, erected in front of Ashwini Kumar Hall by 'Bloggers and Online Activist Network' and activists of Charukala Barisal, with the support of Sangskritik Sangathan Samannya Parishad and freedom fighters to express solidarity with the Shahbag Movement.
The Islamic organisations announced to hold a grand rally at the central Eidgah Maidan of the city on March 22 and 23 under the banner of Qoumi Madrasa Oikya Parishad and organise a long march towards the capital on April 6.
Huge members of different law enforcing agencies remained deployed at the key points and in front of big mosques and madrasas of the city and barred the participants of the rally from advancing towards the Ekatturer Manacha.
