Punjab beefs up security following SC order on Bhullar
CHANDIGARH: Punjab government has tightened up security across the state following Supreme Court’s orders upholding the death sentence to Devenderpal Bhullar and threats by radical groups to organize protests.

Hardliners, including Akali Dal Panch Pardhani, Dal Khalsa, Khalra Action Committee, and Khalra Mission Organization have urged the Sikh community to ramp up demand for Bhullar’s clemency.
Nearly 60,000 Punjab police personnel and 12 companies of paramilitary forces have been put on alert in the state. Prohibitory orders were in place across Punjab to stop assembly of groups, said the officers attached with the intelligence wing of Punjab police.

Security forces have conducted flag marches at key locations, including Bathinda, Hoshiarpur and Gurdaspur, in the state to instill a sense of confidence among the people. Security around Patiala central jail, where Balwant Singh Rajoana, another death row convict from Punjab, is lodged, has also been beefed up.
