HC stays release of 'Madisar Mami'
The High Court has stayed the release of 'Madisar Mami' which had been censored U/A by the censor board as the title degrades brahmin community (Madisar is the traditional nine-yard sari worn mostly by orthodox Brahmin women). Justice N Kirubakaran stayed its release, however, the film can be be released with a different title, he clarified.

K R Srinivasan, Chennai district president of Tamil Nadu Brahmins Association, filed the writ petition pointing out that the original title of the film was ' Madisar Mami and Madana Mama', said that though the term 'Madana Mama' was deleted during certification, it continues to hold the original title in various websites.

Apprehending that the film would exhibit obscene and defamatory scenes making a mockery of the traditional practices of Brahmins, the association said: "Madisar is a traditional dress of Brahmin women, and it has been criticized in the film. If it is exhibited, the Brahmin community would be denigrated, defamed and degraded in the eye of public. Traditional, cultural and religious practices cannot be a subject matter of ridicule and mockery," it said, seeking an injunction on its release.
