Panel to monitor comments on Islam, Prophet thru Internet
The government on Wednesday formed a nine-member committee to find out and take action against them those making objectionable comments about Islam and Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) using social networking websites and blogs.
The committee headed by additional secretary of the home ministry, Mainuddin Khandakar, was formed at the directive of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, said Abul Kalam Azad, press secretary to the PM.
“It’ll start work very soon,” he added.
The home ministry would take necessary actions on the basis of information and recommendations of the committee.
The committee could take help from any expert and it would give secretarial support to the home ministry, he said.
Besides, the committee will apprise the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on the information it will receive and the activities it undertake while acting on those information.
Representatives from the PMO, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission ( BTRC), Law and Judicial Department, information ministry, religious affairs ministry, directors general of National Security Intelligence and Directorate General of Forces Intelligence and the additional deputy inspector general (special branch).
