Police raid Jamaat-Shibir offices in Chittagong
Chittagong - Police conducted raids on the offices of Chittagong city Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir on Tuesday.

A team of Detective Branch (DB) of police raided the city Jamaat office at Dewanbazar around 11 am and searched the office for about an hour.

Police claimed that they conducted the raid on information that Jamaat-Shibir men were holding a clandestine meeting to plan subversive acts ahead of BNP-led 18-party’s 36-hour hartal beginning at 6am on Wednesday.

On the other hand, Jamaat said a team of plainclothes police stormed into its office after a meeting organised on the occasion of the Independence and National Day concluded.

Jamaat leaders alleged that the detectives damaged valuable documents in the name of search.

Earlier, a team of Kotwali police station conducted a raid on the city Shibir office at DC Road at about 10 am on the same information. However, no one was found at the Shibir office.

Meanwhile, police arrested two Shibir leaders -– Mohammad Shahadat and M Ayub Ali -- from the Jail gate at Laldighi.

Kotwali thana police arrested the two Shibir leaders while they were returning after visiting detained party men at the jail.

Police said the Shibir men were accused in a case filed in connection with recent violence unleashed in Lohagarah.
