1500 Jessore Jamaat-Shibir Men Sued For Vandalism
Jessore, Mar 23 (UNB) – Police on Saturday filed a case against over 1,500 Jamaat-Shibir men on charge of attacking police and vandalising houses in Manirampur upazila on Friday.
Second officer of Manirampur Police Station Shankar Kumar Matabbar filed the case against five identified and 1,500 unidentified activists of local unit of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir on charge of obstructing police from discharging their duty, assaulting them, arson attack and vandalising over 50 dwelling houses at Jaipur, Samakati and Chandua villages on the day.
The Jamaat-Shibir men reportedly swooped on the three villages after a clash with police at Jaipur, leaving an activist dead and 20 others injured, including two policemen, following a futile attempt made by police to arrest the local Jamaat ameer in the morning.
Villagers said the clash erupted around 5 am when police went to Jaipur to arrest Manirampur Jamaat ameer Fazlul Haque.
The Jamaat-Shibir men attacked police and hurled brick chips at them when they tried to arrest the Jamaat leader from his house.
At one stage, the law enforcers opened fire to disperse the attackers, leaving Anisur dead on the spot. Twenty other people, including two cops, were injured during the clash.
