Government To Face Attackers On Minorities With Iron Hand- Home Minister
CHITTAGONG, Mar 15, 2013 (BSS) - Home Minister Dr Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir today said the government will face the attackers on minority communities with iron hand and ensure all-out security for them.
He said the government would seriously try to bring the perpetrators to book.
"The attackers are anti-liberation forces who are strongly opposing the trial of the war criminals and there is no room for communal forces in Bangladesh," he said.
The minister said this while talking to journalists after visiting the victims of Hindu villages and ravaged Banshkhali
upazila this afternoon.
"By trying the perpetrators the government would prove that the country would run according to its law and constitution", he commented.
The Jamaat and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir torched and vandalised temples, houses and business establishments belonging to the minority community in Banskhali after their leader Delwar Hossain Sayedee was given death sentence for 'crimes against humanity' by the 1st international crimes tribunal on February 28.
The minister said security of the victims has been assured adding "We've come here to convey sympathy to the victims and we on behalf of the government are assuring them full proof security."
The Home Minister also informed the journalists that some people have already been arrested for their alleged role in vandalising and torching of temples and households of the Hindu community and efforts were on to arrest other accused.
The Home Minister flew to Banshkhali by helicopter around 12:15 pm and then went to Banshkhali Police Station.
He went to Hrishi Aoiddyatananda temple and talked to its priest and local leaders of the Hindu community
Later, he visited the six Hindu households which were burnt to ashes by the Jamaat- Shibir activists.
Chittagong-7 constituency lawmaker Moinuddin Khan Badal, Hasina Mannan, MP, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Hasan Mahmud Khandaker, Director General of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Mokhlesur Rahman, Deputy Inspector General, Chittagong range, Nowsher Ali Khan and Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong Abdul Mannan among others accompanied the minister.
