Jamaat man dies in Jamaat-cop clash in Jessore
An activist of Jamaat-e-Islami was killed and five including two law enforcers were injured as police after being attacked by the party men opened fire in Monirampur upazila of Jessore early Friday.

The clash ensued around 5:00am when police were returning after arresting three Jamaat-Shibir leaders, reports our correspondent quoting Ali Azam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Monirampur Police Station.

Police arrested the opposition leaders raiding their Joypur residences in the upazila before Fazr prayers on suspicion of carrying out subversive activities, the OC said.

Deceased Anisur Rahman, 35, hailed from Joypur village of the upazila.

Describing the clash the OC said, nearly 100 activists of Jamaat and its student wing, Islami Chhatra Shibir, attacked police with sticks and brick chips in Joypur area of the upazila headquarters as soon as the news of arresting the three leaders spread.
Jamaat-Shibir men carried out the attack to snatch their detained leaders.

Police at first fired blank to disperse the agitating party men, but in vain.

At one stage, law enforcers had to open fire and a bullet hit Anisur, the OC said.

The bullet hit Jamaat man died on way to Monirampur Upazila Health Complex.

Five people including two policemen also injured during the clash that continued for nearly one hour, the police official added.

Additional law enforcers were deployed in the area to avoid any kind of untoward incident.
