Khaleda to be tried for killing people in mayhem: Hasina
Sheikh Hasina
Ruling Awami League president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday said that people would try opposition chief Khaleda Zia for killing innocent people by carrying out mayhem across the country after the ICT verdict.

“People will now try you for the killings and you (Khaleda) have to shoulder the responsibility for the mass murders as they were attacked under your directives,” she said while addressing a meeting of the AL advisory council members at her official residence Ganabhaban.

The premier said that people, including the minority community members and police personnel, came under brutal attacks after the ICT verdict that had sentenced Delwar Hossain Sayedee to death for his crimes against humanity committed during the country’s war of independence.

She alleged that it is the characteristic of the BNP to patronise the killers and to provide shelter for them.

“It is proved that Khaleda Zia did not want the independence of the country. Her real face has been unmasked,” Hasina said, alleging that as Khaleda Zia does not want the country’s development, she has been running the mayhem.

The premier criticised the opposition chief for her double role saying, “You are running the mayhem and now also are offering sympathy for the victims.”

“The matter has already been revealed to the people that you have run acts of terror in association with the Jamaat,” she said.

The premier was critical of a section of Muslims who were involved in violent activities before the completion of their Ju’ma prayers.

Criticising Khaleda Zia for her vow to try the top leaders of the incumbent government for the recent ‘mass killings’, the premier said, “You (Khaleda) while in power killed 24 people and left scores of others injured hurling grenades at an AL rally in 2004. Apart from this, Shah SM Kibria, Ahsanullah Master and many other AL leaders were killed during your tenure. So, trial of these killings will be held first.”

She added:

“Anyone who commits crimes will be tried,” she added.

Referring to a coup in the Border Guard of Bangladesh during the BNP regime, Hasina said, “The incident of coup has been hushed up. But our government did not cover-up the matter, rather the BDR mutiny has been tried in a proper way.”

AL general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam and most of the advisory council members, including Tofail Ahmed, were present at the meeting.
